Personality:

Ken Amada is a quiet, respectful eleven-year-old boy who struggles hard to maintain the appearance of maturity amongst a group of friends mostly made up of high-schoolers. He does his homework, goes to class, plays down any interests he has in more 'childish' interests (such as manga or tokusatsu shows), and he's remarkably mindful of his manners. For this reason, people often remark about how 'adult' or 'mature' Ken seems -- especially in comparison to brash, seemingly irresponsible characters like Junpei.

Adding to Ken's somewhat grave manner is the fact that he was orphaned at an incredible young age, when his mother was accidentally killed in front of his eyes, seemingly by a supernatural entity commanded by an older boy. After the incident, Ken tried to convince the police of what he'd seen, but as a young child spouting stories about magical summoned beings, was summarily dismissed. His mother's death was deemed an unexplained accident, and Ken came away from the entire business with a general mistrust towards adults and a sense of bitterness and guilt that he had no real outlet for. In fact, Ken has been afflicted with guilt for much of his life: guilt that he had never told his mother how much she had appreciated her, guilt that he had been able to do nothing to bring her killer to justice, guilt that he hadn't been able to save her.

And that was how he grew up: a solemn young boy who routinely visited his mother's grave, convinced that she wouldn't be able to rest in peace until he tracked down her killer and exacted revenge . It was only after overhearing a conversation between two of the other protagonists, Akihiko Sanada and Shinjiro Aragaki, that Ken realized that Shinjiro had been the cause of his mother's death. Wanting a chance to confront Shinjiro alone, Ken insinuates himself into their group of teenagers with supernatural abilities... and eventually, in the light of a full moon on an October night, he gets his chance.

While Shinjiro, who has lived his own life since the incident half-subsumed in guilt and self-destructive anger, is apparently willing to let Ken take his life, the two of them are interrupted by a third party: a gunman who tries to kill them both. Shinjiro sacrifices his own life to save Ken's, leaving Ken confused, depressed, and unable to reconcile Shinjiro's altruism with Shinjiro's role in the death of Ken's mother. Eventually, with Akihiko's help, Ken is able to bring himself to forgive Shinjiro, gaining the resolve to help the remaining protagonists in their battles against the shadowy monsters that plague their school grounds at night.

Much of what Ken does is an attempt to appear older than he is, grow up faster, or compensate for his young age. He chooses a spear as his weapon to give himself longer reach, he constantly drinks milk in hopes of becoming taller, and tries to conceal his interest in shows about superheroes. Ultimately, however, Ken is a kid, and he's prone to getting carried away or excited just like any other child -- at least until he realizes what he's doing and tries to pretend it never happened. Ken is acutely aware of his relative immaturity, but by the end of the game, is determined to help the other protagonists even if it means risking his life to do so.
Items on your character at canon point: A really cool-looking spear; a bookbag filled with school supplies.
Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Abilities
Ken is a competent hand with a spear, but like other characters in the Persona series, is also capable of summoning a supernatural manifestation of his inner self (called a Persona) to perform magic or attack on his behalf. Ken's persona is named Kala-Nemi and is strong against Light abilities, but weak against Darkness.

Kala-Nemi's abilities are as follows:
Hama: 25% chance of instant death from the power of Light to one enemy.
Cruel Attack: Inflicts a moderate amount of Piercing damage with even greater power if the target is knocked "Down".
Zionga: Inflicts a moderate amount of Electric damage to one enemy.
Diarama: Recovers a moderate amount of HP to one ally.
Hamaon: 50% chance of instant death from the power of Light to one enemy.
Recarm: Revives one fallen ally with 50% HP.
Mediarama: Recovers a moderate amount of HP to all allies.
Hama Boost: Hama skills are 1.5 times more effective.
Ziodyne: Inflicts a large amount of Electric damage to one enemy.
Vile Assault: Inflicts a large amount of Pierce damage to one enemy with even greater power if the target is knocked "Down".
Diarahan: Recovers all HP to one ally.
Spear Master: Inflict double damage with a Spear equipped.
Samarecarm: Revives one fallen ally with full HP.
Mediarahan: Recovers all HP to all allies.

Strengths: Ken is extraordinarily brave for a child, and possessed of the kind of resolve that allows him to continue fighting in the face of certain death. He is no stranger to loss and mourning, and has had many opportunities to realize that life is not fair. Remarkably self-sufficient, thoughtful, and disciplined for his age, he taught himself how to use a long spear so as to provide a means of defeating his opponents while compensating for his unimposing physical reach. He gets on well with animals and has excellent manners.

Weaknesses: While Ken seems mature for his age, the truth is that he often forces himself to downplay his own interests and goals in order to maintain outward appearances -- up to and including what movies he allows himself to express interest in. He can be nudged away from an action if he becomes convinced that it's "childish". Similarly, he'll often keep personal problems (guilt, grief) to himself and try to solve things on his own, even when this is a terrible idea. Ken has difficulty confiding in adults, choosing to maintain the appearance of being highly self-sufficient and capable enough to take care of himself even if it's emotionally or physically exhausting. Ken tends to dwell on feelings of guilt and inadequacy, particularly about not being old and strong enough to take care of himself and the people around him.

Also, he's eleven.

Anyone home?

[Ken picked his way across the street, venturing into one of the old buildings that seemed like it was falling apart a little slower than the rest. It wasn't wrong to trespass, he told himself, if the owners of the property hadn't been around for... well, however long it took for a place to start coming undone like this one.

The floorboards squeaked under his sneakers as he tiptoed his way over to the dining room. He froze as he saw a pair of eyes, glowing like hot coals in the dark. He yelped in surprise as the large glass chandelier that had been hanging from the ceiling suddenly came loose and shattered on the floor, sending little slivers of glass everywhere.

The fat old stray that had been perched on top of the chandelier leapt onto the dinner table, yowled in extreme displeasure, and retreated into the kitchen.

Well, that had to have taken a few years off his life. After verifying that there was nothing left of interest, he followed the cat deeper into the house.

Too late to chicken out now.]
